Beginner Piano Music

If you’re interested in learning the piano but can’t afford lessons, here are some beginner piano music options to get you started. It’s great to begin with scales and warm-up exercises, but these can get tedious very quickly. You need a little more excitement to keep you interested and keep you progressing.

One of the favorite books out there for adults is Alfred’s Adult All In One series. If you can afford online lessons (a download that costs less than $40, Rocket Piano has far more than a book will provide.

For some pieces to learn try Bach – Inventions No. 6 (E), No 14. (Bb), Clementi – Sonatina in G Major, Op 36 No. 2, Grieg – Popular melody, Op. 12 No. 5

For children beginning the Rocket Piano is also a great choice, however if you’d prefer to stick to a book series, Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber are a great choice.

Once you’ve chosen your method of learning, set aside a practice time each day, from 30 minutes to an hour, more if you have the time.

Start with finger exercises and move onto the lesson books. Work your way through them taking your time on the things that you struggle with, and always allow time for “play”. Choose a piece that will challenge you but also offers a break from the theory and structure of it all. Let the songs work their way into your fingers and enjoy your new skill. Each day you’ll get better and better and you’ll soon be onto more intermediate pieces. For now, the beginner piano music mentioned above will keep you plenty busy!
